Radio Station Jock fired b/c of Jay Z ???
Less than a day after announcing being fired from his Philadelphia morning radio show, Charlamagne Tha God has detailed his departure from 100.3 The Beat.
While not ruling it out, Charlamagne said his revealing Beanie Sigel interview from last Friday (October 30) may have played a part in his firing.
"I don't know, that's what I'm hearing but I don't know how true that is," Charlamagne said about the Beans interview. "I don't see why that woulda been an issue. I would hope that the powers that be, like Jay-Z, wouldn't be that petty. But you never know. Yeah, my numbers were great. I've never had any disciplinary action, never been suspended, never been written up, never had any verbal warnings...As controversial as they say I am, I'm like a model employee. Any program director that's worked with me will tell you that but that's the way it goes in radio. That's why you gotta treat these buildings like the Carter, man. You go in, set up shop, do what you gotta do and burn it down when it's over." (XXL Mag)
Beans' interview with Charlamagne discussed his Jay-Z-directed song "Average Cat."
"I'm not really dissing Jay, there's certain parts in there where my emotions [take over]," Beans explained in an interview with radio personality Charlamagne Tha God. "I'm a rapper, I listened to the Blueprint 3 album, I heard things in there where he was taking shots at people but a lot of things were directed at people...I think my feet was meant for a couple of 'em...Collectively, you gotta understand, people like Peedi Crakk did some unadvised things like make mixtapes called Camel Hunting Season...It's the Roc as a whole -- but when he says lines like 'I heated up the Roc already, so why can't y'all get hot already' -- when you listen to them lines, those are those lines that I know as a rapper, because I know what he do...I know when he's slick on records." (100.3 The Beat)
Charlamagne made the announcement via his Twitter page Monday (November 2) morning.
" I just got fired from 100.3 The Beat in Philly. Salute to Philly I hope you all enjoyed me the past 6 months," he wrote. " RT @lilduval: to everyone excited bout @cthagod getting fired. it dont matter we on TV wit "hood state of the union" see how GOD work. lmao #cthagodgotfired for being the glitch in the matrix. #cthagodgotfired cause 100.3 The Beat said they want to move in a different direction. God bless them. Thanks for the past 6 months. RT @fuzeb: So @cthagod got fired after the hov interview...reminds me of when Puff got Wendy fired for callin him gay #cthagodgotfired and if its any sympathy p*ssy out there for me I'll take it!" Radio One executive Elroy Smith previously confirmed the decision to bring in Charlamagne to the Philly airwaves last April.
"Doing an all-music morning show with mixer Bent Roc garnered some of the highest ratings that we've seen in the last year for our morning show on the Beat," Smith said in an interview. "We are presently No. 1 with women 18-34 without doing a traditional morning show. Charlamagne will be brought on board to accent the current success of the 'Morning Beat.' His commanding personality along with his Internet savvy and his desire to be local will only propel this show to a higher plane." (Radio & Records)
Radio Station Statement
An employee at the station where Charlamagne worked says they can confirm "100%" that he was fired over the Beanie Sigel interview. They say:
"You have to understand, the station has to maintain an amicable relationship with Jay-Z and his camp because this man is the biggest rapper in the game right now...He's a business. So you can't risk ruining a relationship like that just to draw ratings. A radio personality can always be replaced and with the proper set-up, put in a position to succeed. It's better for the station to replace that person than ruin a relationship with [Jay-Z]"
