50 Cent brought unwanted drama to the arena during the G Unit set. Last year 50 was able to prove to a sold out Summer Jam audience that he could rock them with his rhyming skills and catchy hooks. He even overshadowed Eminem.
But this year 50's attempt to entertain the audience with tired, played-out antics was not well received. 50 became very frustrated by the audience's listless response. It didn't help matters much when, midway through their performance, the police had to interrupt the show when 50 and company became involved in a raucous brawl with audience members in front of the stage. Water bottles and chairs went flying back-and-forth from stage to audience.
After the fight, 50 tried to get the audience's energy level back up by going through a string of his hits, like "P.I.M.P." and "What Up Gangsta," all to no response. For the most part, the concertgoers just stood with their hands folded, waiting for him to get off the stage. When he realized he wasn't getting the response he wanted, 50 criticized the audiences lack of energy, made fun of R. Kelly's legal troubles, and refused to leave the stage. With frustration getting the best of him, he finally gave up, dropping the mike and walking off with the rest of the G Unit crew following behind.
And by the time R. Kelly finally came onstage, the audience was so exhausted that he, like Eminem last year, played the exit music to a house leaving the arena.
