Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent & Timbaland Named In Steroid Investigation

The blowback from the steroid investigation into sports has reached the realm of music as some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B are being implicated. Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Timbaland are among the celebrities that have been named in a New York state steroid investigation.

According to a report published over the weekend by The Albany Times Union, Blige, 50, Timbo, Wyclef Jean and author/producer Tyler Perry have all allegedly ordered steroids, sometimes using fake names in order to obtain the drugs.

According to records obtained by the Times Union, between 2005 and 2007, Blige received numerous shipments of Human Growth Hormones (HGH) and anabolic steroids from an Orlando pharmacy.

The report also alleged that Blige, 50, Timbo and Wyclef have all had steroids or HGH sent to Long Island chiropractor Michael Diamond, an anti-aging consultant at the Clay Gym in Chelsea.

Diamond could not be reached for comment.

Due to the alleged anti-aging effects of steroids, experts say many entertainers are attracted to the drug.

Blige's spokeswoman told New York's Daily News yesterday (Jan.13), that the singer "has never taken any performance-enhancing illegal steroids."

50, Timbaland, Wyclef and Perry could not be reached for comment.

The statewide investigation, launched by Albany District Attorney David Soares, is focusing on those who prescribed the drugs. It is not apparent yet if any of the artists violated any drug laws.

Dr. Gary Brandwein, an osteopath from Florida has been named as the doctor signing off on the prescriptions. Brandwein was identified last year as the doctor that prescribed steroids to infamous pro wrestler, Chris Benoit, who killed his wife, son and then himself last year.
